On Sunday 12th December we were due to hold our Christmas family event. Open to all families accessing our services, the party provides a safe haven for families to relax and socialise in an environment where their children are supported and understood. In some cases, the opportunities we provide for children to experience something like an encounter with Father Christmas, might be the only one they get! Last week we made the very difficult decision to cancel the event to keep our children, their families and our staff and volunteers safe, going into the Christmas period. However, we still wanted to spread a little Christmas magic!
In less than 48 hours we managed to arrange a Drive-Through Christmas grotto, complete with online entertainment. It was a huge team effort pulling together goodie bags, creating craft instructions and wrapping presents but it all came together just in time. Throughout the morning, families visited us at Me2 Club HQ, got to meet Father Christmas (from the comfort of their vehicles) and took away a gift, sweet treats, and craft activity packs to enjoy at home. All our families were then invited to join us online for an afternoon of entertainment from Juggle Puppets!
One Mum said “Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone involved with todays activities, K loved it. He was blown away by Father Christmas’ extensive Star Wars knowledge and he was very enthusiastically taking part in the magician and punch and judy shows. It was lovely seeing him just having fun!”
This would not have been possible without help from some of our wonderful supporters – Boyes Turner, Wokingham Lions, Lidl Wokingham and The Fence. A huge thank you to you, and all our families for supporting the charity at this difficult time.
