Fantastic Feedback!

What an exciting term it has been for Me2 Club! With the annoucement of our expansion into Reading and a fair few events and trips for our Me2 Club children and teenagers, it has been a whirlwind but a very positive one! Since April, we have run a Weekend Away, Meet up of the Me2 Club Crew, Volunteer Induction Training and our Summer party! At our Volunteer Training this term we gained 7 new recruits, lots of whom have already been matched with our young people at activities like Cubs, swimming and afterschool club.

We also had a meet-up of the Me2 Club Crew. We are so pleased that our teenagers have enjoyed the Me2 Club Crew project so far and we are looking forward to the next one (plans are already in the works!). We had some great feedback from the teenagers and parents after our outing to Reading for dinner. One parent said ” The meetups develop his independence, give a chance to hang out with friends and try things without parents guiding every move. Each time he does something like this he seems a little bit more independent, and more cooperative at home”.

As for the ‘Weekend Away’ to Green Park Activity Centre we all had a fabulous time taking part in the zip wire, mountain biking, climbing and much more. One of our parents said “T loved the zip wire. He loved it that he felt brave enough to do it and because he went first, this made him feel very special. All great for his self esteem, happiness and confidence. He really enjoyed the bike riding and said he would like to do it a bit more often at home. The most important thing he said was unprompted when he got home, “I really miss the trip”. This is the thing he says when he has really had a wonderful time and he is sorry it’s over. He enjoyed spending time with friends and the volunteers”.

As if that wasn’t enough, we also had our Summer Family Party a couple of weeks ago, where our families all enjoyed some sunshine while the children took part in our craft activities and a circus skills workshop. We had some overwhelming feedback about the party but also our core service, which we could not resist sharing with you – “Both H and O are learning to swim and going from strength to strength, which wouldn’t be possible without you. Confidence is soaring in the pool and they are learning that the rules are important, all be it slowly. The boys look forward to swimming and spending time with their volunteers and just half an hour of just sitting back and watching them enjoy themselves is priceless. Thank you so much for running a priceless service. Everyone is so supportive and friendly and our lives are richer for knowing you all”.

We are so grateful to all our volunteers who have given up their time over the past term to help our children take part in lots of different activities every week and those who supported them to come on our trips. Without the time they donate to Me2 Club we would not be able to run our service and the impact they have on the lives of our children and families is immeasurable. Thank you to everyone for a great term and we hope you all have a lovely summer holidays.

Got some spare time this summer? Then come to our Volunteer Induction Training on Tuesday 20th August, 9am-5pm in Woodley and become a Me2 Club volunteer! You could help make a huge difference to a child with additional needs by helping them take part in after-school leisure activities. For more info click here.
