The Teenagers have an ‘OARsome’ time in Portsmouth!
On Wednesday 20th of February we took a group of our teenagers for a Day Away in Portsmouth. The teenagers all voted on the activities before the day and everyone got to do something they voted for. The winning activities were a Boat Ride and Blue Reef Aquarium with lunch out at Pizza Express. On Wednesday the teenagers arrived early to catch the coach for a busy day. We arrived on time into Gunwharf Quays and went straight to the waterside to collect our tickets and catch the boat. The Harbour Tour took us around Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard with the commentary explaining all the features of the ships in the Harbour including HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. The teenagers enjoyed learning about the ships but also went out on the bow of the boat and enjoyed the sunshine and fresh air. After we finished the tour we headed over to Pizza Express where we all ordered a pizza and pasta and chatted about the Me2 Club Teenage Meetup Project. After lunch, we all headed over to catch the public bus to the aquarium. The teenagers all counted out the change and bought the bus ticket for themselves and their volunteer from the bus driver. After the bus and a short walk, we arrived at the Blue Reef aquarium and enjoyed walking round seeing all the different creatures on display. The teenagers and volunteers really enjoyed seeing all the different fish, sharks and animals and after a quick trip the gift shop it was time to catch the coach home.
All of the teenagers enjoyed the trip ‘lots’ and one of them rated the trip 100 out of 10! It was lovely to see the teenagers enjoying the activities in Portsmouth with the help of the volunteers. A big ‘Thank you’ to the volunteers who gave up their time to come away with us on the Day Away, we could not run these trips without their help!
We would like to thank DM Thomas Foundation for Young People for supporting this trip and making it possible for us to do so many fabulous activities on our Day Away.
