This year we have piloted an exciting new ‘Day Away’ project which is open to young people who are currently supported by Me2 Club. The first trip was a day out at the seaside in Bournemouth with our Me2 Club teenagers which was generously funded by the Wessex Youth Trust. One of the aims of this trip was to help our teenagers learn valuable life skills, so everyone attending came to a planning meeting to look at different options of what they would like to do. We started with a picnic near the beach before heading off to the Oceanarium. As it was a lovely warm day we were able to enjoy an ice cream by the sea front before boarding the land train for a scenic ride along the beach. The day ended with dinner at Harry Ramsden’s and a sing along on the coach journey home.
For our second Day Away we took 10 of our Me2 Club young people for a day out at Cotswold Wildlife Park. The aim of the trip was to increase the children’s confidence and independence skills. On arrival at the park there was a group discussion about what animals they wanted to see and a plan was made so that everyone’s ‘voice’ was heard. During the day, they were encouraged to: spend their pocket money in the gift shop; choose their own ice creams and look after their own belongings. Thank you to the Berkshire Community Foundation for funding the trip and making it possible.
